If you’re visiting Rome, don’t miss out on Vatican City. Even though it’s one of the tiniest independent countries in the world, it has lots to offer for its curious visitors and pilgrims.

Vatican Museum (Musei Vaticani)

This gigantic museum features absolutely stunning artwork by some of the world’s most notorious artists. It houses masterpieces by (among others) Michelangelo and Raphael, as well as a large Egyptian collection. You can walk all day and still discover new things!

Sistine Chapel (Capella Sistina)

While visiting the Vatican Museums, be sure to visit the breathtaking Sistine Chapel and take in the Last Judgement. The Sistine Chapel can be found at the far side of the Vatican Museums and visiting it is included in your entry ticket. You can’t say you’ve been to Rome without seeing the chapel – it’s a must-visit!

St. Peter’s Basilica (Basilica San Pietro)

This is the heart of the Christian world, and the largest church on the planet. Inside, you’ll find yourself gazing at the enormous interior. The panoramic viewpoint at the top of its massive dome is one of the most stunning sights over Rome you can find, and surely worth a short climb.

Castel Sant’Angelo

Originally an emperor’s tomb and later used as a papal refuge during turbulent Medieval times, Castel Sant’Angelo is filled to the brim with historic tale. We have to admit that Castel Sant’Angelo isn’t really a part of Vatican City itself as it lies outside the Vatican’s walls, but it’s only a brisk walk away and for centuries, its fate has been entwined with that of the papal city.
